New Events for 7/28/2011

I appreciate your understanding that a new post will come each day until I am current. I didn’t want to overwhelm with one super long post, so these are the extras days. In the future there will be no more than 2 posts per week. Remember to visit “Ongoing Offerings” at the website for links to events at the Magic House, Great Skate and other homeschool favorites. A link to the website can be found at the top of this email. Please feel free to forward this email to other homeschoolers and encourage them to join the email loop since it has become SO EASY! Contact information is available at the bottom of this post if you have any questions. ALSO at the website, the most up to date Homeschool Owned Business Listings; look for the tab at the very top of the page.

EDWARD JONES YMCA

I was talking with the executive director of the Edward Jones YMCA (in Maryland Heights, just off the Page extension) today.  He said that he is interested in starting classes for homeschoolers again.  However, he didn’t know how to get in contact with homeschooling families to find out what the interest level is.

Since I would love this opportunity for my kids (and an opportunity for me to work out at the same time :-), I said I would contact my homeschooling group.

Right now the when/what is pretty flexible:

Monday or Wednesday mornings are the preference right now, but they could possibly do Friday mornings.  Depending on interest, it could be once or twice a week,fFor one hour, 1-1/2 hours, or two.  It could be just gym (sports), just swim, or a gym/swim combination.

You don’t have to be a Y member to join the class.

Please let me know if you are interested!!  You can post here, or contact me at scotties 04 [at] sbcglobal [dot] net

Thanks!  Amy Scott

Please pass this info along to other homeschoolers!

SCIENCE CENTER CANCELS HOMESCHOOL DAYS

Dear Home School Parents,

It is with regret that I must announce the end of our Home School Days and Home School Labs programming.

After careful analysis of the program, I have decided to suspend current offerings while we investigate ways to offer a program that is both cost effective and better meets your goals as a home school teacher.

The final Home School Days class sessions will be held August 16. If you have already purchased tickets for September through December, you will receive a full refund.

The final Home School Labs class sessions will be held September 6 and 20. At this point no additional Home School Lab sessions have been scheduled for the fall.

It has been a pleasure working with you and your children. We have had a great deal of fun helping our students learn and discover science. I do look forward to working with you in the future through new program offerings.

Sincerely,

Amanda Tinnin

Photos and additional details regarding supplies needed are available at our website http://www.fbcarnold.org/artsandcrafts.

Mark your calendar!!  Our Arts and Crafts Exhibition will be held at First Baptist Arnold on September 24.  The goal of this event is to increase awareness of our art programs at FBCA.  I encourge all children who have painted with me to have a table at this event.  It is encouraging for those considering attending our classes to see the various levels of students.  Even if you only have one or two paintings, come set them up and proudly show folks what you have accomplished!  It’s a good time to invite Grandma/Grandpa, Aunts and Uncles, neighbors, etc.  Folks who attended our event last year said they really enjoyed seeing what the students have done (especially the children).  More to follow about this event!  Please send me an email though if you think your child might be interested in participating.

I already have several who have signed up, but didn’t want you to miss out!  August seems to have come along pretty quickly!  Watch for information about our fall classes as well!

You don’t want to miss this upcoming event! Rick is a speaker for WallBuilders (founded by David Barton), a national pro-family organization whose name is taken from the Bible book of Nehemiah in which Nehemiah led a grassroots movement to rebuild the foundations that had been the strength, honor, and dignity of that nation.

WallBuilders has been recognized nationally for its work in education, history, law, and public policy, integrating the elements of faith and morality throughout all aspects of American life and culture. Much of the uniqueness of WallBuilders message stems from its massive collection of original documents from early American history, affirming George Washington’s declaration that, “Of all the habits and dispositions which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

Rick has been active both in church and State, serving as a leader in his local church and two terms as a Texas State Representative. Rick has influenced thousands of Americans to become salt and light in their communities, helping them understand their dual citizenship and their responsibilities both as citizens of Heaven and of America. Rick’s presentations contain compelling personal, historical, and Biblical facts that create interest and inspire patriotism.

Rick earned his B.B.A. in finance from Angelo State University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law, and serves as president of the Torch of Freedom Foundation (http://www.torchoffreedom.org). He is married, a father of four, and an entrepreneur who has built several successful businesses. Rick has a solid Biblical worldview and is an excellent teacher of how Biblical principles and Christian values relate to current events and every aspect of life.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area. NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the list owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
