2011 St. Louis Mineral & Gem Society Annual Show
The St. Louis Mineral & Gem Society hosts an annual show in November. We have exhibits by members, institutions and prominent collectors. Demonstrators teach about various facets of the hobby. Dealers from several states sell mineral specimens, fossils, lapidary and jewelry making supplies, finished jewelry, books about the hobby, hobby equipment, and other items.
A popular feature of the show is our Children’s Booth. Kids 12 years old or under may select rock, mineral, or fossil materials and assemble a collection in an egg carton. In two decades of shows, we have given away over 13,000 of these “Rock Collection Starter Kits”.
The 54th Annual St. Louis Mineral and Gem Society Show will be held at the White-Rodgers Community Center in Affton on November 18-20, 2011. Come join the fun and get your Christmas shopping out of the way!

Psalm 78:4   Faithfully Equipping Generations

Greetings from The Grannie Annie!
In the past, you have expressed an interest in having your students participate in The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration. We hope that will happen this year! The Grannie Annie invites young people in grades 4 through 8 to discover and share stories from their family history — and to possibly have their stories published by The Grannie Annie.
Having students read stories that have been published in previous years is a great way to begin. All of the published stories are available on our website — and the stories are indexed so that you can easily find those that will enhance particular units of study. Once students begin exploring history in this way, they’re likely to want to discover their own family stories!
There is no cost for schools or individuals to participate in The Grannie Annie. And the benefits are invaluable: Students hone their writing skills, deepen their appreciation of history, strengthen their family connections, and develop a stronger sense of their own identity.
The Grannie Annie has resources to help students with writing and sharing their stories. The current Guidelines and Submission Forms are all ready for you to submit your students’ stories any time between now and the submission deadline:  February 1, 2012.
We encourage you to subscribe to our e-mail newsletter.  That’s the best way to keep up with Grannie Annie reminders and announcements. Please follow these simple steps today; the process shouldn’t take more than a minute or two:
1. For best results, enter familystories{at}thegrannieannie.org in your e-mail address book.
2. Click here, and then complete and submit the brief form you’ll receive.
3. Please be patient: You’ll receive an e-mail message to which   you must reply in order to confirm your subscription. It may take several minutes for you to receive the e-mail message.
Please e-mail or phone us if you have questions. We look forward to receiving your submissions and reading your students’ stories!

If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  Comments are not available, but sharing is.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area. NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
