Educational Concerts at Powell Hall

Hope you can attend at least one of the four exciting Powell Hall Educational Concerts this year! The new Educational Director has brought in some talented, creative performers to complement the St. Louis Symphony music. She says, “We are trying to bring back the wonderful multi-sensory concert experience from past years.” SHARE has reserved our usual great seats in the Dress Circle Box and Grand Tier sections.

The first Kinder Konzert isDr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham” on Wednesday, October 10 at 11:00 am, and the first Young People’s Concert is Hip Hop Symphony” on Wednesday, October 31, 11:00 am. See below for more details about these and the 2013 concerts!

To sign up for one of the Educational Concerts, go to the Public Page of the SHARE website at www.homeschool-life.com/mo/share/ and click on the “Public Calendar” link on the left sidebar at the bottom. When the calendar appears, click on the date/concert you’re interested in. A pop-up window will appear on the left side of your screen. Fill out the required information and your name will be added to the sign-up list. SHARE pays for your spot when your name is on the list.

Send your payment of $5.00 per person (child or adult) to Kerrie Tate, 617 Bacon Ave. St. Louis MO 63119. Checks are made payable to SHARE. Please put concert details in memo section of check.

The Fall 2012 Powell Hall Educational Concerts are:

Kinder Konzert– “Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham” on Wednesday, October 10, at 11:00 am.

Words by Dr. Seuss and music by Robert Kapilow. Would you like them in a train? Or on a plane? Dr. Seuss’ greatest children’s book comes to life with the accompaniment of the St. Louis Symphony and the Really Inventive Stuff theatre group. Featuring actor Michael Boudewyns and soprano Kimberly Schroeder. Join Sam as he explores all the different ways to eat his favorite dish!

Young People’s ConcertHip Hop Symphony” on Wednesday, October 31, 11:00 am

 Learn about musical form in this innovative program pairing hip hop choreography by COCA’s Redd Williams with classical favorites performed by the St. Louis Symphony. When the dancers take the stage, you’ll see the visual and physical representation of what you’re hearing!

 

The Winter 2013 Powell Hall Educational Concerts are: 

Kinder Konzert“Remarkable Farkle” on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00 am

Poor Farkle McBride tries every instrument, but none of them are quite right. With text from the popular children’s book by John Lithgow accompanied by selections from Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, join Farkle on his journey to find his place in the orchestra, and learn about the different instrument families along the way.

Young People’s Concert “Magical Movements – the Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 11:00 am

Britten’s classic “The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” gets a new spin with the addition of dancers from DanceWorks Chicago. Watch as the orchestra comes together section by section before your eyes. This dynamic partnership makes for a magical experience where the whole is much larger than the sum of its parts!
