WHAT ELSE? IF you are doing a Christmas Shoebox, you can bring them this morning. However, you are not required to participate in our Christmas Shoebox Project in order to skate!
~Shoe Box Label kits are available on the SHARE website and lots of other info about shoeboxes too!
~I also have purchased official Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes that you may pick up at Homelink any time or at our November meeting. I know that many folks have switched to buying the plastic shoeboxes at the dollar stores because they are a bit bigger and the box is actually part of the gift. But if you would like an already decorated shoebox that you fold together, it’s free for the asking. I only ask that if you take one, you bring it back full.
~Go to the SHARE website and look for the sidebar that says “Christmas Shoebox Info”. You can also print out really cute “All About Me” Color Sheets for your kids to fill out and put into the shoebox. There are also Ideas and Hints for packing shoeboxes, extra labels, an overview of the discipleship program that OCC now uses, and information about how to track your gift.
~Our goal once again is to have 100 shoeboxes this year!!!!
IMPORTANT!!! If you can’t come to the skating party and have made a shoebox, you can bring it to Homelink any Tuesday or Thursday before Nov. 16 OR you can bring it to the November SHARE meeting (November 15) OR drop it by Cathy’s house (3675 Montana 63116) OR call Cathy and she will come get it! GOT QUESTIONS? Don’t hesitate to ask!

How Great Thou Art Workshop
Coming in December 3-5, 2012
A few years ago we brought in Barry Stebbing, who writes the “How Great Thou Art” art curriculums. It was very successful and, guess what? He is coming to St. Louis again!!!!
Barry and Saundra Stebbing are so sweet!  They are super talented, love art, and have the desire to inspire students to do good works, to show them that God has given each and every one of them ability to create, and that drawing and painting are learned disciplines. The course includes teaching many of the basic fundamentals of beginning drawing and painting, an introduction to art appreciation (studying the great masters), and new techniques in the use of colored markers and colored pencils.
Mr. Stebbing (How Great Thou ART Publications) and his wife have been instructing throughout North America for the past 15 years and now estimate they have personally instructed over 60,000 students. The workshop is for ages 5 thru adult and includes fundamentals of beginning drawing, academics of beginning painting, color theory with colored markers & pencils, and art appreciation. Price for the class is $28.00, all inclusive (with the exception of colored markers and colored pencils – which can be purchased at registration). We encourage you to take advantage of this inspiring and academic instruction, all with a Godly point of view. Check out this mini lesson:
You will be amazed at how much your child will learn in just 3 days. The classes are large, all ages are taught at the same time, but it really works well! I sat in on the class last time and found it not only instructional but encouraging. I truly felt like my drawing skills were enhanced!  And I was impressed at how Barry is able to control the classes and keep the students hanging on to every word he says and every line he draws.
We need a minimum of 70 students to make this workshop viable and I don’t think I will have any problem getting that many.  December is the kind of month where everyone likes to kind of kick back and do less school and more preparing for the holidays.  So make plans to have your children bake cookies, make homemade gifts, and log 7-1/2 hours of art.  After they take the class, you might want to have them also design your Christmas card and then mail it out to all your family and friends!
Additional information and the registration form are available on the SHARE website navigational bar and on the calendar. (
Feel free to email me with questions.
Blessings! Cathy (and Kerrie too)

Gateway Learning Connection
A learning center located in St. Charles, MO. We provide playgroups for children, ages 2 – 4, offer tutoring services to both school-age children and adults, and deliver a variety of community education programs. In addition to these services, we also host children’s themed parties and small events and meetings in our well-equipped facility.
Our Parent and Me (PAM) Playgroups are ninety-minute, weekly gatherings, that meet for six-week sessions.  Parents and their child, two to four years of age, participate in interactive activities to foster skills, such as learning to share, following directions, communication and listening. We recognize that parents are their child’s first teacher and play is a very important component during the developmental stages.  Our goal is to create an atmosphere where play and learning come together for all participants to enjoy. These shared bonding, interactive play and educational adventures, between adult and child, allow parents to experience a day in the life of their youngster, in a preschool-like setting.
Each week we offer a different themed activity that parent(s) and child will take part in.  Some sample themes are:  Bringing the Outdoors In, The Petite Chef, Jewels & Jazz and Music Mania. We promote socialization among our guests and parents have the opportunity to network with other parents that have common interests and concerns. Our relaxed, comfortable and creative environment encourages social, emotional and creative support among its participants.  Our staff members will also provide helpful information about the children’s developmental stages, answers to commonly asked questions and information about other activities of interest to parents and children. The cost for each six-week session is $65/child and children must be accompanied by an adult.  Space is limited – each session can accommodate no more than 10 children.
We have a new six-week session starting this Saturday.
Warmest Regards,
Nichole Carter

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area. NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
