Homeschool Morning at the Magic House
January 7, 2013; 9:30-11:30 a.m.
EXCITING NEWS: For all the dates, the price once again will be only $3.00 per person!!!!!
Dear Homeschoolers,
Once again the Magic House, has graciously agreed to give us the wonderful $3.00 price for ALL of our Magic House Mornings this school year.  We have promised them that “if they make it affordable, we will come”.  Please, please spread the word about this great deal and make plans to attend one or all of the Homeschool Mornings at the Magic House.  It’s such a wonderful experience to have that entire venue full of like-minded families.  You can let your children have a lot of freedom knowing that the building is closed to the public and is open to only homeschool families and sweet Magic House employees.  My goal again this year is to fill the Magic House with hundreds of  homeschoolers and show our appreciation to the Administrative Staff of the Magic House for their generosity towards us!
Please note the following:
>Price:  $3.00 per person (adults included)
>Children under the age of 1 are free.
>You may NOT use any membership pass or discount coupons as this is already a special price.
>Sign up is not necessary.  You may pay at the counter and you may use the following:
Cash   *   Check   *   Credit Card   *   Debit Card
>Be sure to use the entrance to the new Educational Center…do NOT use the old entrance (facing the school) and do NOT use the front doors facing Kirkwood Road.
>THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL HOMESCHOOLERS, NOT JUST S.H.A.R.E. MEMBERS…SO INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!   Please feel free to copy this and forward to them.  It is important that we have over 400 participants or the price could be raised.
>Mark your calendar for the LAST date to follow: February 4, 2013
>If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Mullins at Ekcjmullins@gmail.com

NARNIA CLASSES
Becca Hubbard will be offering an exciting new class for the spring 2013 semester! It is stil not too late to sign up for “Narnia!  The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis, and a Bit of Britain” class starting on Tuesday, January 15 or Thursday, January 17. Becca says:
“We’ll discuss The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe for the great story that it is, pull out some of the spiritual truths, look at the life of C.S. Lewis, and add a bit of British geography, history, and culture as it connects to C.S. Lewis and Narnia.  Readers and non-readers are welcome. The students will get the most out of the class if they are familiar with the chapters before class, but they may have the chapters read to them by parents, siblings or others if they prefer.”
The 60 minute “Narnia!” classes are geared for students from about age 6-12 but grade and age cut-offs are very flexible. They take place at the Salvation Army Community Center (824 Union Rd., St. Louis MO 63125) and the times are designed to correspond with the Homeschool P.E. classes offered in the same building. You do not have to be a P.E. student to take the “Narnia!” class.
The possible class times are Tuesdays at 1:00 pm or Thursdays at 12:00 noon, 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm. If the times and days don’t work for you, let Becca know – if she has six students she will form another class.
The class will start January 15 or 17 and run for 17 weeks, following the Homeschool P.E. schedule. The cost is $90 per student (so reasonable!).
If interested contact Becca at cbhubbard@htc.net or 618-281-4944 and let her know the age of your student and what day and time would work best for you. She needs feedback to finalize the classes!
Hope many of you can participate!  Our children wish they were young enough to take this class!   Kerrie & Cathy
P.S. Here is Becca Hubbard’s bio for those that don’t know her….
This is Becca Hubbard’s fourth year teaching enrichment classes for S.H.A.R.E. Becca has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois. We have added a watercolor class and drawing class for any age (nearly one on one instruction). We have a NEW Microsoft Office class for ages 12 and up that will be a for-credit class – depending on how you want your child to test at the end depends on the number of credits or it can be taken pass/fail. All teachers are professionals in their field and all are home-school moms also except for the Microsoft Office instructor.
These classes run for 12 weeks except for Microsoft Office which runs for 6 weeks. Facility Fee for the church is $25 per family for 1-2 children and $35 per family for 3 or more children. Most classes are about $25 per month per child with sibling discounts available.

PIANO LESSONS
January: the perfect time to start piano lessons
Cost: $75 per month, average, plus a few materials
Contact: Rhonda Barfield
Phone: 636-219-8701
barfield@aol.com
Thinking about piano lessons for you or your child?  I can teach everything you need to know: thorough, yet fun instruction from an experienced teacher with 20+ years experience in two schools and at home, a Christian, and a former homeschool mom. You’ll be amazed at how quickly students start to play “real” songs.
Listening House Studios students:
– play a variety of music, including both classical and popular
– learn to read notes, but also to play by chord symbols and by ear
– compose original music
– improvise (make up) music on the spot
– understand music theory and technique, and how to use both when playing
– perform comfortably and often in public
If you’re looking for enjoyable, professional piano lessons for yourself or your children, reasonably priced, Listening House Studios can help. Email for more information or to set up a free consultation. Also ask me about recommendations from other homeschool moms.

HOMESCHOOL TUTOR
Hello, My name is Michelle Perjak, and I have had sudden and unexpected life circumstances arise which require me to help substantially with my household income. I know in my heart of hearts that God still wants me to raise and educate my own children, and as I am 22 weeks pregnant, I don’t think I could find a ‘real job’ right now even if I wanted to 🙂
I believe my greatest skill set is tutoring. I have degrees in math, physics, and computer science, so I am qualified to tutor those subjects at any level through lower level college classes. I have lots of experience tutoring in these subjects, and I thoroughly enjoy it. I can also teach beginner piano lessons (first two years), clarinet (first 5 years) and up through high school level biology and chemistry.
After the first week in January, I will be living in Columbia, IL, and my house will be about five minutes from the JB bridge. My rate will be $15/half hour for all subjects, and I will be available to tutor weekends or weekday afternoons. Feel free to let your other kids tag along – we will have a big basement with lots of toys, I have 6 and 5 year olds of my own who would love a play date, and older kids are welcome to just hang out.
You can contact me via email (mnperjak@gmail.com) or phone 638-340-6345 if you are interested.

Local Harvest Grocery – Homeschooler Owned
Local Harvest Grocery started in 2007 in a 600 square foot space in South St. Louis. Since then the Local Harvest family, including a grocery store and cafe on Morgan Ford Road, a cafe and event space in Downtown St Louis, and a grocery/cafe combination in Kirkwood, has paid over $1 million dollars to local farmers and food producers and has grown to employ close to 100 people.
We have been, and still are, committed to being a positive part of our community – using green practices, supporting small local farmers and producers, donating to educational and environmental charities.
Local Harvest feels that knowing your food is of the utmost importance – we are dedicated to transparent and honest food production. We invite you to enjoy the delicious tastes of seasonal eating as well as its positive impact on our world.

If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area. NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
