SELF DEFENSE TRAINING DISCOUNT
Please listen to this pod cast of my weekly radio program. The first segment, with Grandmaster Michael Rhoades, outlines a great activity, for kids and adults alike, with a homeschool, family friendly small business entrepreneur that you can enjoy with the entire family. Also, if you mention you heard about his programs on my radio show, he will give you a 10% discount on your classes.
Grandmaster Michael Rhoades offers self defense training for every level of student and it is also a great character builder to boot. Please spread the word if you believe this is a worthwhile activity that homeschoolers can enjoy.
Thanks,
Lisa Payne-Naeger (homeschool mom, author, host)

PATRIETTE LIGHTS VOLLEYBALL
The St. Louis Christian Patriette Lights will hold a winter volleyball clinic on Friday afternoons for girls and boys at Gametime Sports in Chesterfield – just a mile off of Hwy 40 – from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm, beginning on February 1st and running through March 22nd. The cost is $68 for the first player and $60 for the second and third from the same family. This is a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, get some exercise, and learn a lifetime sport.
USA Volleyball Certified coaches will do conditioning, plyometrics, teach basic form and strategies. There will be contests, games, and scrimmages. The players will be divided onto 2 separate courts – one for beginniners and one for experienced competitive players who know offensive and defensive systems.
We really do have a lot of fun. And we learn a lot too. Twelve of our girls have made select teams this year!!! The Lord has blessed their hard work and good attitudes.
If you’re interested, please fill out the application and send it to me as soon as possible. This clinic always ends up with a waiting list.
Blessings,

DaVinci Machines II: The Australian Exhibition
When: Now Open through May 2013
Where: 800 Market St., Ste 100, Saint Louis, MO 63101
Across from City Gardens, One Block North of Busch Stadium
Hours: Tues – Sat 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sun – 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm; Mondays – Closed to Public for Group Tours and Private Parties
About the Exhibition:
With over 60 machines on display, many of which are interactive, the collection features replicas of the major and most striking inventions of the original Renaissance Man. Featured machines on display include the DaVinci bicycle, hang glider, and air screw, the precursor to the modern-day helicopter.  Also, on display are two of Leonardo’s revolutionary robotic inventions, the life-size robot drummer and for the first time ever, the secrets behind Leonardo’s legendary mechanical lion.  The uniquely interactive machines are a popular aspect of each exhibition as visitors can touch and handle these models to gain a first-hand appreciation of how they work. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings from his codices accompany each model.
Highlights of the Exhibition:
-We have several life-size versions of DaVinci’s most famous designs on loan from the Museum of Leonardo DaVinci in Florence, Italy displayed for the first time in North America
-We will be unveiling Leonardo’s incredible vision of the “Ideal City” in full color graphic panels and stunning animation for the first time ever
-Experience DaVinci’s “Last Supper” in the size and scope of how he intended his masterpiece to be viewed
-You will be amazed by our recreation of the Battle of the Titans.  In 1505, DaVinci and Michaelangelo were commissioned to paint opposing frescoes in the Hall of Five Hundred in Florence, Italy.  Both paintings were left unfinished and over 500 years later we have reproduced them here in Saint Louis, MO.
– Discover Leonardo’s version of the great pyramid building machine revealed for the first time at the DaVinci Machines II in North America.  This incredible, actual working model, called the Herodotus Machine was believed to have helped build the great pyramids of Egypt.
-View beautiful reproductions of over half of Leonardo’s masterpieces in our stunning art gallery
Come Visit the DaVinci Machines II: The Australian Exhibition and explore the mind of the Greatest Genius of All-Time and Discover the DaVinci in You!
Tour Times: We offer school group tours every hour starting at 11:00 am and running through 4:00 pm.
Tour and Film: On weekdays, we offer a school group package that includes a guided, 30 – 40 minute group tour of the exhibit as well as a showing of the “Da Vinci Genius,” a 45 – minute educational film.  For our younger students, we have three 10 – minute video segments about DaVinci as an alternative film option. We do have a Teacher’s Guide available on our website with activities for those who would like to further enhance the learning experience.
~~Attention Teachers – Don’t forget to ask about our Educator’s Discount on books and DVD’s in our gift shop.  We have wide variety of literature on DaVinci, Michelangelo, and the Renaissance.  Also, don’t forget to bring a tax-exemption letter to save on any school –related purchases.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area. NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
