LEGO classes available for the Fall
Hi!  I wanted to share info with you about some wonderful LEGO classes being offered in the Fall.  There are 2 classes being offered: Early Engineers for K-4th grades.  This will be a 1 hour weekly class; and Mind Storm NXT Robotics for 5th-8th grades which will be a 2 hour weekly class.  The classes will be held at the HIM Co-op meeting at Mission Community Church in Pacific (it’s not THAT far away!! :)) on Thursday mornings (exact times have not been set yet but sometime between 9-noon)  Please consider joining us!  The class is open for registration now.  If you have any questions, please contact me.  I have attached the original post that went out to the HIM co op participants earlier…  (as a side note, Bricks 4 Kidz policy is that only 2 kids work together on a kit so everyone is hands-on and learning the entire time! That is super encouraging to me because I know everyone is getting maximum learning opportunities and fun!!)
Please see the information below for Fall 2013 LEGO Robotics/Engineering Classes being offered at HIM Co op.
A minimum number of students is required for each class.  Please respond to this post ASAP if you are interested so we can determine if either/both can be offered.
If you have any further questions, please contact Nan Burkeen at or 314-973-3144
K-4th Grade Class: Bricks 4 Kidz Early Engineers
Bricks 4 Kidz after school classes are designed to be educational and fun. We teach children principles of science, technology, engineering and architecture utilizing LEGO Bricks. Each lesson is unique, with a specific academic theme every 6 weeks. The program is designed to engage your child’s mind. Weekly K-3rd grade classes will run 1 hour, with a 10-15 minute lesson to introduce the scientific concept, and the remaining 45-50 minutes the students will work in pairs to build a motorized LEGO model demonstrating the concepts taught.
Minimum of 10 students per class
Maximum of 18 students per class
Per student cost for 10 week session: $110
5th – 8th Grade Class: Mindstorm NXT Advanced Robotics
Mindstorms combine classic LEGO building with the world of robotics, using motors, sensors and software. Students learn how to design and program LEGO bots that can perform all kinds of tasks. Students will work in pairs to build and program their robots. Laptops will be used for the programming, and we will teach them how to use the software. Models and programming challenges will get progressively harder as the session progresses. Class would be 1.5 hours each week.
Minimum of 8 students per class
Maximum of 14 students per class
Per student cost for 10 week session: $175

If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area.
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
