The 2013-2014 Homelink schedule is finally finished and registration is now open! We are really excited about the awesome teachers and classes for the upcoming school year! Everything (almost!) you need to know about the new classes is in the Course Descriptions page on the SHARE website. There are also detailed instructions on how to register and LOTS of other important info.
For those of you that may not know, Homelink is a SHARE-sponsored, volunteer-run learning center that was founded eight years ago by homeschool parents. It meets in the St. Andrew Catholic School building in the South County area (309 Hoffmeister Ave., St. Louis, MO 63125). Homelink offers once–a-week enrichment classes taught by qualified teachers/tutors in a “group tutorial” setting. There are classes for all grades but the majority are for jr. high and high school students. Most classes run for two semesters (32 weeks), and begin the week after Labor Day. .
Homelink has been a valuable resource to homeschool families by providing…
– Supplemental classes in a supportive, Christian environment.
– Outside educational accountability for students (and parents!).
– Assistance in classes which are more difficult to teach.
– Opportunities for students to learn and work in groups
– An atmosphere for friendships to develop among like-minded students and their families.
For more details, go to the SHARE website at and click on ‘HOMELINK CLASSES 2013-2014” on the left sidebar. Scroll over to “Course Descriptions.” You will also find links to General Information, How to Register, Registration Forms, Teacher Biographies, Special Needs Classes, Homelink Handbook, and SAL P.E. Classes. We’ve included the SAL Homeschool P.E. Program information on one of the pages since many Homelink students take P.E. classes at the nearby Salvation Army Gateway Community Center.
As you look over the schedule you will see that there are a few classes that have a “question mark.”  This means that we are not 100% sure which is the best time slot for that class– and that there may be some flexibility. If you are interested in “question mark” classes, we would appreciate your immediate feedback so we can choose the best spot. We will try to offer the class at the time when the most students can participate. As always, if we don’t get enough students, some of the classes may be canceled. We will periodically the schedule on the website.
We also welcome your input if you have a conflict in ANY of the non-question mark classes! There is no guarantee that we can change the schedule…but we will try to make adjustments if enough students have a conflict. Email Kerrie at with feedback and/or questions. Please include details and your phone number.
Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Homelink Orientation on Thursday, August 15th from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in the St. Andrew Gym. Families can sign up for classes until the first day on September 3 and/or 5. However, if you are really interested in a class it is best to register now and not wait for Orientation – many fill up quickly.
If you sign up for a class and the time or day changes, we will let you know immediately and (of course!) give back your Class Deposit Fee.
Looking forward to another GREAT year at Homelink!  Hope you can join us!

The Fall 2013 Salvation Army Homeschool P.E. schedule has arrived! This is the 27th year of Homeschool P.E. at the Salvation Army, founded and taught by everyone’s favorite coach and teacher, Cort Hubbard. The small program Cort started back in 1987 with only one class of 20 students has certainly grown! Many former homeschoolers say that Homeschool P.E. with Cort is one of their favorite memories – and are now bringing their own children!
Homeschool P.E. offers a (very inexpensive!) way for your child to learn valuable physical AND social skills that will last a lifetime. Whether your child is an athlete on a select sports team, or an artist that has never kicked a ball…Homeschool P.E. has something to offer. For families that would like to meet others in the homeschool community, P.E. is definitely a good place to begin! As we all know, children have an easier time making friends when they are “doing” something together in a consistent way. Countless families have formed lasting friendships through their time together at P.E.
Cort Hubbard and the Salvation Army are the sponsors of Homeschool P.E., but SHARE helps to spread the word! Since the Salvation Army building is near Homelink (St. Andrew) we try to coordinate with some of the class times and organize carpools.
Note: Do not wait too long to sign up for P.E. classes! They often fill up quickly – especially on Tuesday and Thursday because of families trying to coordinate with the Homelink schedule. If you are new to P.E. and are not taking Homelink classes, please consider signing up for Wednesday times if possible.
Cort’s files with P.E. Registration Forms, schedule, pricing, and other details can downloaded from the SHARE website and read more information. Go to and click on “SAL P.E. CLASSES 2013 NEW.”

Bolduc House Museum
125 South Main Street, Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670
I know you are all busy getting your plans together for the next school year and I hope you will consider scheduling the first Tuesday of every month from 10AM-Noon to come to the Bolduc House Museum for Homeschool Tuesday. Each month we provide a different, hands-on program around a specific theme that is appropriate for mixed age/grade students. The next Homeschool Tuesday will be next week, August 6, 2013 – the topic is the War of 1812 (even though it is 2013, the War did not end until 1815 so we are still in the bicentennial season). Cost: $4/participant with a maximum per family of $10. You can pay at the door but we appreciate knowing how many people you are bringing so that we can have the supplies ready ahead of time.
Another very fun event for homeschoolers will be Vive La Musique, our North American French Music Festival, on Saturday, August 24th from 10AM-10PM. Tickets are $15 in advance (on our website or in our shop) and #20 at the door. We do have several free tickets available for intermediate to advanced violin students in the 10-17 year old age group. The purpose of these tickets is to allow youth violinists to attend and participate in the master fiddle class that will be taught at 4PM by Dennis Stroughmatt. The free tickets have been provided by White Cliff Manor B&B. They are good for the entire festival including the evening concert. If you have a student who might be interested, please let me know soon – when the free places are gone, there will still be space available in the master class for anyone who buys a ticket – tickets also include the evening concert.
Homeschooling families are invited to attend our fourth Colonial History Day for Homeschooling Families on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Many different colonial activities will be happening between 10AM-4PM that will be fun for your entire family. Details will be finalized by August 10th. We always include homeschooling experts who will make presentations in a mini-conference setting. You’ll be getting a separate email with the menu of events planned for this special day in about two weeks. Cost: $35/family
Finally, the town’s annual huge craft fair, Jour de Fete, is planned for August 10-11, 2013. We have space in our new parking lot on Second Street between Gabourie and Market Streets ( 12 x 12′ for $25) which we are making available to nonprofit organizations, causes, and quasi nonprofits. The only requirement is that the organization or cause provide an activity for children. Otherwise, sales, fund-raising, and promotional/educational activities can be done. Does your family, homeschool cooperative, or church want to have the opportunity to be at Jour de Fete? Call us at 573-883-3105 and speak with Robbie or myself for details.
Of course, your homeschool group or family is always welcome to visit anytime. If you are interested in seeing or doing something specific while you are here, please call in advance – otherwise just walk in! We are homeschool friendly!

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area.
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
