FALL AND WINTER ROBOTICS
We hope the new school year is off to a great start!  This email is to let you know that we are offering FLL and FTC robotics through a venture with St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.  There are opportunities for individuals or for a group of students.  Please share this with students, colleagues, or friends who may be interested as classes are starting soon.  Please call Cathy Sylve at 314-488-0164 or visit http://www.metamo4icmathcenter.com/Robotics_Fall_and_Winter_Teams.html for additional information.

4-H Horsemanship Program
4-H Horse Project, emphasizing Pat Parelli’s principles of “Relational Horsemanship”, will begin on Thursday, September 12, from 5-7. This group will meet each Thursday from September through December, excluding November 28 and December 26.
Club participants will learn horse safety and ground training, and then work on developing riding skills and training techniques that will enable them to safely ride and work with horses.
They will also have the opportunity to put together and present project books, participate in speech competitions, and exhibit items in the local Jefferson County fair.
Parents are encouraged to get involved too, as there are many things that working with horses can teach you about working with your children, and other adults.
In order to make this club successful, I need parents to be involved. Siblings are welcome too, as we have many other animals that they can enjoy while their older brothers and sisters work with the horses. Children must be 8 years-old by January 1st, of 2013, in order to work with the horses.
Cost for this program $125.00
Meetings are held at Team Miller’s Homestead at 9313 West Fork Creek Rd., in Dittmer, Missouri 63023. 314-341-5300. Write to JessexCrew@aol.com for more information.
Come and visit our Monday group, which meets from 5-8, and see if 4-H might be what your family is looking for.

Radon Poster Contest
The State of Missouri Radon Program will be coordinating this year’s State Radon Poster Contest in partnership with the National Radon Program Services of Kansas State University and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The entries for the national contest will come from each state’s contest winners.  The winners of the National Poster Contest will receive award plaques and gift cards in the amount of $1000 for first place, $600 for second, and $400 for third.
We invite your school to partner with us as we reach out to children ages 9-14 and encourage them to participate in the 2013 Missouri Radon Poster Contest.  Prizes for the state poster contest are awarded to first, second, and third place entries and to their teachers.  This contest highlights the risks posed by indoor exposure to radon.  The posters will help increase awareness of radon, which the U.S. Surgeon General has warned is the second leading cause of lung cancer after cigarette smoking and the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that radon causes about 22,000 deaths from lung cancer annually in the United States.
Go to http://www.sosradon.org/poster-contest for national contest rules.
Artwork must be received by close of business on Thursday, October 31, 2013.  Send your entries to:
Cathy Wood, Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services, PO Box 570 (930 Wildwood Dr.), Jefferson City, MO 65102
If you have any questions or need more information about this event, please contact us at 573-751-6102 or email Cathy.Wood@health.mo.gov

HOLIDAY VENDOR FAIR
Cost: $35 for 1 table, $50 for 2 tables
Contact: Analda Merritt
Phone: 636-357-7910
The St. Louis Blue Knights Basketball Team will be hosting the State Championships here in St. Louis on Feb. 21-22, 2014.  We would love your support and attendance at these games.  This is one of your home school basketball teams and they would appreciate your fan base support.  In an effort to help with the cost, we are having several fundraisers one of which is a Vendor Fair to be held on Saturday, November 9 from 10-3.  This is an opportunity for home-based business or self employees to demonstrate their services or products to the public much like a trade show.
The Family Vision Library (2020 Parkway Drive, St. Peters, MO 63376) has graciously allowed us to do this at their facility.  It will be open to the public and this is my third time organizing one of these.  Each vendor will have a great door prize as will the Knights.  It will be a great day of shopping, browsing and fellowship.  Entrance as an attender is free but we need vendors as well.   Please contact me if you desire to know more of how you can participate and promote your business!  More information will be forthcoming but for now… contact me and reserve a spot.  Some spots are already taken.  There will be no duplicates so once you have registered and paid, no other rep can set up.
Thanks in advance for your support!

If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area.
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
