If the times and days don’t work for you, let Becca know – if she has six students she will form another class.
The Exploring the United States classes will begin on September 17 or 19, and run for 12 weeks, following the P.E. schedule. The cost is only $65 and includes all materials. The class is geared for ages 6-12, but Becca is very flexible and adapts the curriculum to fit the students.
If interested contact Becca at cbhubbard@htc.net or 618-281-4944 and let her know the age of your student and what day and time would work best for you. She needs your feedback asap to finalize the classes!

Speed Mentoring for Moms
Place: Family Vision Library
Date: Tuesday, September 24th
Time: 6:30-8pm
RSVP: Dawn Griffin @ dandawn.griffin@gmail.com
This is an event open to all homeschooling parents interested in getting advice from a variety of homeschool moms. How it works: moms (mentors) will be ready to talk one on one and explain how they have homeschooled and the style of schooling that has worked for them. You may ask questions and discuss with them until the bell sounds; it is only a brief discussion. Then you will continue on to the next mentor until you have traveled the room which will give you a short overview of different styles of homeschooling and a chance to ask questions one to one. After you have been around the room, there will be a brief time to talk further with a mentor or ask more questions. Please feel free to invite a friend and share with other homeschool groups; this is open to all of the homeschool community. Please RSVP to Dawn Griffin at dandawn.griffin@gmail.com to attend.

Junior Singers
Lutheran High School South is launching a new “select” choir for middle school students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  This experience is designed to build on each student’s music instruction in other settings.  Participation in “Junior Singers” is through a brief audition.  Students will sing “Happy Birthday” and “Row Your Boat” along with pitch-matching and range evaluation.  The Junior Singers will rehearse on Tuesday evenings, 7 – 8:30 pm, in the LHSS Choir Room, 9515 Tesson Ferry Road in south county, beginning in mid-September.    Emphasis in rehearsals will be on healthy vocal technique for excellent choral singing, as well as stage presence, self-discipline and character development.  The Junior Singers will perform at regularly scheduled LHSS Choir concerts, along with other opportunities that arise.  Tuition for the 2013-1014 school year is $50 payable to LHSS.
The Junior Singers are directed by Greg Gastler, LHSS Choir Director, assisted by Kelly McCord, elementary music specialist for the Lutheran High School Association.  If your student would love to sing with others who also love to sing, please contact Mr. Gastler at LHSS, 314-631-2842 X 314, for more information and to schedule an audition.  Audition dates and times may be scheduled with Mr. Gastler, via phone or email to choir@lhssstl.org.

Wolf Fest 2013
http://www.endangeredwolfcenter.org/take-a-tour/events/wolf-fest-2013/
A day for the entire family to eat, drink, watch, learn and marvel.
This year’s Wolf Fest will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.
Admission is just $25 a carload, and no reservations are necessary.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see and photograph some of the most endangered wolves in the world. In addition, guests can stroll among dozens of booths, vendors and exhibits, many with conservation and wildlife themes.

BOLDUC HOUSE
The next homeschool event will be A Stitch in Time Homeschool Tuesday on October 1, 2013 where we will be doing hand-sewing. Of course both men and women knew how to do basic sewing in the 18th century and who does not need to know how to sew on a button! I’ll create this as an event on Facebook later this week. Homeschool Tuesday happens on the first Tuesday of each month from 10-noon. Every month the program focuses on a different aspect of French colonial life here before 1803.
If any of you are involved in a homeschool support group or co-op, please be aware that we can plan a field trip for a group of homeschooling families that involves whatever menu of activities we decide. Just please do call ahead to make sure that we know when your group plans to come and what activities you would like for us to provide for the group.
Sincerely!

THE POLITICAL ANIMAL
Concerned Young Women for America is excited to present the video series “The Political Animal,” by Jeff Myers of Summit Ministries. This six-part video series, geared towards high school students, will address the myths that keep Christians from becoming more like Christ – and changing the world – through political involvement. Join Concerned Young Women for America as we explore the importance of political engagement from a Christian worldview.
We will meet Thursdays evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 pm for six weeks (Oct 3 – Nov 7). Meetings will be held at the Pillar Foundation in Ellisville (15820 Clayton Rd.) Each week we will watch and discuss one 20-minute video segment. Afterwards we will enjoy fellowship time and refreshments!
CYWA is a national chapter of Concerned Women for America for young women, ages 13-18. For more information or to register, please contact Elise Kostial (CYWA Coordinator) at elisekostial@gmail.com or 636-675-4410.

Colonial Education Day at Fort de Chartres
Friday, October 11, 9:30-2:00, $5 per student, located at 1260 State Highway 155, Prairie du Rocher, IL 62277. The day will start at 9:30 a.m. in front of the flag poles with an opening ceremony. This will include a short history of the fort from the Site Superintendent. After this whole group demonstration, students will break into smaller groups (10-15 students with 1-2 chaperones/teachers) and go to a demonstration of their choice. Every 15 minutes a musket will fire signaling time to move to a new demonstration. This will continue until lunch at 12:00. Lunch will be from 12:00-12:45. Students will bring a sack lunch. After lunch we will have another whole group demonstration of a narrated skirmish between the French and British. This will be an example of encounters between the French, British, and Natives throughout the French and Indian War. Following the skirmish, students will continue to go to demonstrations for 15-minute intervals. The day will conclude at 2:00. You will receive a map of where the demonstrators are located with a schedule of whole group activities and lunch. Re-enactors will be available to guide groups throughout the day. Some of the planned demonstrations include French Marine soldiers and British soldiers, fife and drum corps, powder horn making, candle dipping, leather work, wood work on the great wheel, quill work, pottery and sculpting, 18th century maps, quill pens, canoes, Native camp in the Native Village, fire starting, musket station, and bake oven. If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions). Those marked with an asterisk (*) do not take place within the target area for this list, but are open to all homeschoolers who live in the target area.
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
