Michelle Gruender of Tutoring for Excellence offers ACT preparation courses and math tutoring to homeschool students (individuals or groups) at a discount. Her children have enjoyed both traditional schools and homeschooling. She tutored her eldest with his ACT preparation and he just received a 33 and a full ride to college.
During their preparation, students complete 4-5 actual past ACT exams—they focus on pace (critical for maximizing their ACT score), develop familiarity with all concepts tested, and improve proficiency in weaker areas through guided repetition.
In math tutoring, Michelle works on targeting “gap” areas where student comprehension is weak. As they develop, they move on to the next level of math understanding—diagnosing with short quizzes, working on weak areas, and ensuring success before moving on to the next concept area.
Michelle has run a successful tutoring business for the past four years, ran the ACT review course at Sylvan Learning Center, and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. For more information, call Michelle at 636-584-9749 or email her for pricing and more details at

From the JA Website:
Taking students deep into the world of business, JA Finance Park is a month-long economics education program that introduces personal financial planning and career exploration.
At the culmination of this program, students visit JA Finance Park, an on-site or virtual community, to put into practice what they’ve learned about economic options and the principles of budgeting. Assisted by their teachers and a staff of trained volunteers, they have the opportunity to actually develop and commit to a personal budget. The program includes in-school activities, the JA Finance Park simulation, and a post-simulation assessment.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
