Please join homeschoolers and thousands of families nationwide to see the movie Dolphin Tale 2 on September 12 together. Homeschoolers made a huge difference for the first Dolphin Tale movie back in 2011.  When our groups and communities showed up en masse to catch the matinee screenings on opening day, we caught Hollywood’s attention, helping make the original film a box office success and enabling Dolphin Tale 2 to be produced.
Dolphin Tale 2 is a family movie that will inspire, instruct, and bring you to tears because of the great story line.  I was privileged to be able to screen this movie and thought it was really good-maybe even better than the first one!  My filmmaker son, Josh, also thought it had good production value—and he’s hard to please!   This movie even has two homeschoolers who play top roles!

WHO IS PUTTING THIS TOGETHER?        S.H.A.R.E. (St. Louis Homeschooling Activities, Resources and Encouragement) is working with The Homeschool Movie Club to promote this Homeschool Day at the movies  This is the opportunity for the homeschool community to unite and show Hollywood that homeschoolers are valuable customers that can impact ticket sales and the entertainment industry.

WHEN?   Friday, September 12, 2014.

WHAT IS THE MOVIE ABOUT?  This film again stars Morgan Freeman, Harry Connick Jr., and Ashley Judd.  Synopsis:  It has been several years since young Sawyer Nelson and the dedicated team at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, headed by Dr. Clay Haskett, rescued Winter. With the help of Dr. Cameron McCarthy, who developed a unique prosthetic tail for the injured dolphin, they were able to save her life. Yet their fight is not over. Winter’s surrogate mother has passed away, leaving Winter without the only poolmate she has ever known. However, the loss of Panama may have even greater repercussions for Winter, who, according to USDA regulations, cannot be housed alone, as dolphins’ social behavior requires them to be paired with other dolphins. The team must find a companion for her before Clearwater loses their beloved Winter to another aquarium.  (based on a true story)

Price:  $6.50 per person
You will also receive a voucher for 12% off at the concession stand

Why go as a group?
Because it’s fun! Taking a field trip with like-minded people who can celebrate the perks of homeschooling together can be enriching. And how many other people can go to a matinee on a school day! 🙂
Also, it makes a statement to have the homeschool community unite and let Hollywood know we have a voice. We can be a valuable force in the entertainment industry if we collectively let them know (with our ticket buying) what types of movies we want more of.  (And I think this is working–I’ve seen more and more family-friendly films being made.  BTW, The Identical, will be coming out that same week.  I’ve seen it too and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Watch for another upcoming email about that film.)

Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
