Timely Events for January 2, 2015

So sorry for the long time without hearing from me, but due to family illness and loss, my time has been focused elsewhere. I know there are several happenings not on this list, but these items are happening this week or very soon. In the next 7 days or so I hope to be caught up with going through email and posting lists. Happy New Year to all of you!

Homeschool Morning at the Magic House
January 5, 2015; 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Once again the Magic House, has graciously agreed to give us the wonderful $3.00 price for ALL of our Magic House Mornings this school year. We have promised them that “if they make it affordable, we will come”. Please, please spread the word about this great deal and make plans to attend one or all of the Homeschool Mornings at the Magic House. It’s such a wonderful experience to have that entire venue full of like-minded families. You can let your children have a lot of freedom knowing that the building is closed to the public and is open to only homeschool families and sweet Magic House employees. My goal again this year is to fill the Magic House with hundreds of homeschoolers and show our appreciation to the Administrative Staff of the Magic House for their generosity towards us!
Please note the following:
*Price: $3.00 per person (adults included)
*Children under the age of 1 are free.
*You may NOT use any membership pass or discount coupons as this is already a special price.
*Sign up is not necessary. You may pay at the counter and you may use the following: Cash, Check, Credit Card, Debit Card
*Be sure to use the entrance to the new Educational Center…do NOT use the old entrance (facing the school) and do NOT use the front doors facing Kirkwood Road.
* THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL HOMESCHOOLERS…SO INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!   Please feel free to copy this and forward to them. It is important that we have over 400 participants or the price could be raised.
*We have 4 Magic House dates. There is no September or December event.
*Time: 9:30-11:30 a.m.
*Mark your calendar for these future dates:
February 2, 2015

Bolduc House Museum
It’s time for Homeschool Tuesday- January 6, 2015 – as always the first Tuesday of the month. This month we’ll be learning to speak some French. We’ll learn some simple greetings, colors, numbers and then practice using games, songs, and an adventure in the reopened Louis Bolduc House. As usual, we’ll begin at 10AM and be finished by noon. The cost is $4/participant or $10/family maximum. Please feel welcome to share this with other homeschooling families. Everyone is invited but we do need to have some idea of how many people will be coming so reply by email, call us at 573-883-3105, or post to the event on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1554578234783203/- hopefully before 4PM on Monday.
We’re looking forward to seeing you here on Tuesday morning. In the event of inclement weather, our policy is to close the museum to visitors when the Ste. Genevieve public schools are closed so watch the news stations if there is a question. Call us if you are unsure of the weather conditions and most of all stay safe.

Jefferson Sale
Start 2015 off with great savings on curriculum and resources at the Jefferson Sale
Friday, January 9, 2015 @ 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
The Family Vision, 2020 Parkway Drive St. Peters, MO 63376
636-447-6900 www.thefamilyvision.org
Why the Jefferson Sale? Because prices are so low at this book sale, a two-dollar bill—the portrait of our third president—is sure to get you something good.
We have to clear out a lot of books. They’re good books, but we just don’t have the space. Maybe you can help find a new home for some of them. Maybe the low prices will help you out. Be sure to stop by during our Jefferson Sale.

Do you have a senior in high school going to college next fall? You should be planning to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) right after January 1st, 2015. Lutheran High School is hosting a workshop to help you complete the FAFSA and answer your questions about financial aid on Wednesday, January 14th at 7 PM. A financial rep from Saint Louis University will present and answer questions. Like the FAFSA, this event is free and open to the public. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Will Roundey at roundey@lhssc.org

Read to Succeed!
Read to Succeed is an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Students who complete six hours of recreational reading earn a free ticket to Six Flags! The program is available to teachers and schools at no cost to participate, and it’s a great way to motivate kids to read.

Please visit  https://stlouishomeschoolevents.wordpress.com/ and check the Ongoing Offerings section for homeschool specific links to many area attractions. And don’t forget to check out the top tabs too! Please feel free to forward this email to other homeschoolers and encourage them to join the email loop; sign up is at the top of the right column. LIKE THE LIST ON FACEBOOK!
If you know of an event, class, happening, or link you would like to see added, please contact me at zana8796 [at] yahoo [dot] com  and please let me know if you have any questions or find incorrect/out of date information. Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
