JUMP DAY
Did you know that this past August, the jumping jack was named the official exercise of the State of Missouri? In celebration, The Magic House, the Saint Louis Rams, the Midwest Dairy Council and Jamba Juice have created an opportunity for area school children to kick off a summer-long wellness program focused on the jumping jack!
Together, we are excited to introduce an initiative that promotes health and wellness in children through physical activity and good nutrition. The initiative, St. Lou Is Jumping, focuses on engaging kids in healthy activities through three phases:
It all begins on Jump Day, designated by the state legislature as Wednesday, May 13, 2015, when we are asking you and your children to do jumping jacks at some point during your day.
By signing up for the St. Lou Is Jumping program at www.magichouse.org/jump ,you will receive weekly emails with physical activity challenges, nutrition information and ideas, details for free admission to The Magic House and tips to motivate kids to be healthy. Families will also be encouraged to share their activities in social media.
Finally, 1,000 participating students in St. Lou Is Jumping will be selected to receive a ticket for themselves and a guardian to a St. Louis Rams preseason game. Prior to the game, participants will be invited on to the field for an attempt at breaking a Guinness World Record for jumping jacks!
To officially participate in Jump Day on May 13, email jump@magichouse.org with the following information:
-Family Name
-Your contact information (name, email, phone number)
-Number of anticipated participants
We are enthusiastic about working with your family! Please contact our project manager, Melissa Swank, at 314-288-2544 or at Jump@magichouse.org if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Your family will play an integral role in leading this initiative!
By joining in on Jump Day and participating in weekly fitness challenges, you are helping us encourage health and wellness throughout St. Louis.

ABOUT THE WIZARD OF OZ : By L. Frank Baum. With music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg. Adapted by John Kane for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Come celebrate the 75th anniversary of the timeless classic, The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, gets swept away by a tornado and is dropped in the magical Land of Oz. As she tries to find her way home, she befriends Scarecrow (who thinks he lacks a brain), Tin Man (who feels he has no heart) and Cowardly Lion (who wishes he had courage). This wonderful adventure, based on one of the most popular movies of all time, features an incredible score including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and “We’re Off to See The Wizard.”   Come join Dorothy and friends as they show that good wins over evil and that “There’s No Place Like Home”.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
