Teacher Appreciation Days
Office Depot/Office Max is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Days on August 1st-4th and August 29-September 1st.   Homeschoolers are teachers too! You should be able to sign up for their teacher program. Print off a membership card from your local homeschool group to support the fact that you are homeschooling. Gifts include 25% off and a free calendar. Talk to your local OD/OM store.

Homeschoolers eligible for wholesale laptops! I know nothing else about this except what you are going to read….
Microsoft Education Product Policy allows nonprofit NFS to offer in-classroom technologies and pricing (previously reserved for traditional public school facilities) to Homeschool families.
First year of program – over 1,800 families obtained laptops through NFS.
Based on Microsoft Education Product guidelines, the NFS Board voted to categorize homeschool families as schools and to implement Homeschool Group Purchasing in May of 2014. The program goal is to facilitate access of in-classroom technologies for individual Homeschool families.
NFS Board “our organization is only four years old. In that time we have stressed moving forward to meet the technology needs within all educational venues. The first year of the Homeschool program has been a great success. We had no idea that so many homeschool families would participate. There have been hick-ups, our phone and Lab staff were, at times, overwhelmed by the response. For the 2015/16 school year NFS has expanded capabilities to meet the expected demand.”
Homeschool families are now able to acquire computers/software at the same wholesale pricing the NFS program affords to traditional public school facilities.
Homeschool families can purchase from NFS as individual families or form a group for a Group Order. In both cases the families must provide Homeschool documentation (type is dependent on the State of residence) to NFS. This is required to receive the full package of Microsoft Office software and lower laptop costs.

For Dads Only: What does it mean to wear the hat of a homeschool dad? What is the dad’s role in the homeschool? What about socialization? How about calculus and chemistry? Can my wife REALLY do this? Join Paul Westover and Benny Bryant as they share their homeschool dad experiences and answer all your questions. Leave encouraged.
New Homeschoolers 101: Christy Westover will be sharing experiences and providing practical resources for new homeschool moms. Bring your questions and concerns, worries and fears about the coming year. We’ll lay them all down and sort them all out as we talk about the true heart of homeschooling and how it all works.

Door prize drawings at 8:15pm.
NO CHILD CARE is available. Children are welcome to accompany parents, but must be with parent for the entire evening and CANNOT be left unattended in the library at any time.

These free “Homeschool Helps” seminars will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2015 and will be held at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, 7717 Big Bend Blvd., Webster Groves MO 63119.   It is centrally located and has plenty of space and AC! (Same location as last year).
See all the details below about our New Home Educators Seminar (for pre-school – 7th grade) from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, and our High School Helps Seminar (for 7th – 12th grade) from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Parents of jr. high students are welcome to attend both seminars, but those jr. high families that have been homeschooling for a few years will probably find the morning session unnecessary. The afternoon session would be a good fit for both newbies and veterans with jr. high students. Remember – it is wise to start planning for the high school years BEFORE they arrive!
Both seminars are free but registration is required. We need to know how many are attending so that we can prepare enough handouts and decide what rooms to use.
To register, go to Click on NEW HOMESCHOOLER SEMINAR on the top bar– click on “Here” and a description of the seminar with registration at the bottom will appear.
Register all who will be coming and be sure to indicate which session(s) you are attending. Please write any questions you have in the appropriate box. It is very helpful to get your questions ahead of time!
Sorry – there is no childcare for this event but nursing babies are allowed, of course. You are welcome to bring a sack lunch or snacks to eat in the Lighthouse Fellowship Hall, or stop by one of the area restaurants (There are quite a few in the neighborhood).
Hope to see you there! Kerrie & Cathy …and other homeschool veterans!

– The Homeschool Physical Education Program is sponsored by the Salvation Army, and takes place at their Gateway Citadel Worship and Community Center, 824 Union Road, St. Louis Mo., 63123. This is the 27th year of the classes, taught by founder Cort Hubbard.
– Teacher/Coach Cort Hubbard has a Bachelors Degree from Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, Georgia, a Masters Degree from the University of Mississippi, and a K-12 teaching certificate. There is not enough room to list Cort’s experience and accomplishments! (And he would be mad if we tried!)
– Homeschool P.E. course description – “These classes promote physical exercise, skills development, and sportsmanship. The typical Homeschool Physical Education class will begin with prayer, followed by calisthenics, coordination skills or jogging, skill development (teaching session), and fun games which often incorporate the skill being taught. The specific material a student will learn is based on their age and skill level, seeking to introduce new skills, or improving on skills already acquired.”
– Fall 2015 classes are on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, beginning September 8, 9 & 10 and ending December 15, 16 & 17.
– Classes often fill up quickly, especially on Tuesday and Thursday because those taking Homelink classes try to schedule PE on the same day. Do not wait to register or your preferred time slot might be taken! Classes are divided by age groups, but there is some flexibility allowed. Due to class size and safety issues, it is not always possible to move your child to an older or younger class.
– To sign up and hold your spot, you can email Cort your registration information at Please include ALL of the necessary info – guardian/parent name, email address, phone number, student age and class choice. Payment is not due until the first day of class. Checks are made out to the Salvation Army. If you have any questions about class placement, ask Cort by email or call him at 631-0727 ext. 6130.
– The cost of Homeschool P.E. is VERY reasonable – only about $4.00 per class! To participate in Homeschool P.E. classes, each student must be a “member” of the Salvation Army, but Cort has incorporated the membership price into the class fees. The cost for P.E. per semester is $56 for one student, $107 for two students, $157 for three students, and $50 for each additional student.
– Cort’s wife, Becca Hubbard, will again be offering homeschool enrichment classes (for about ages 6 – 12) at the Salvation Army that coordinate with P.E. class times. We’ll put a link on the SHARE website as soon as the classes are ready.
– Many of you have asked about how you can purchase Quarterback King – the awesome game that Cort invented. Go to for all the details. Cort also has a few of the games in his office at the Salvation Army for purchase.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
