Chamber Ensembles in the Afternoon
April 3, 2016; 2:30 pm
Parkway United Church of Christ 2841 N Ballas Rd, St. Louis, MO 63131
The Town & Country Symphony presents its Winter Concert with a program featuring an enticing selection of solitary emotions. Highlights include solos by the orchestra’s principal players and ensembles that feature each section of the orchestra.
Carl Hoff our concertmaster will perform the ever beautiful Jules Massenet “Meditation from Thais”.
Principal cellist Alex Schutt presents the evocative “Kol Nidrei” op. 47 by Max Bruch.
The woodwind section contributes the beautiful “The Girl with the Flaxon Hair” by Debussy and Scott Joplin’s “Heliotrope Bouquet” A slow Drag Two-Step. The audience will be surrounded by the luscious romanticism of mysterious and luscious romantic performance in Rudolph Ganz’, “Strings in Variations”.
Not to be outdone, the brass and percussion section will explore Dello Joio composition in “Scenes from ‘The Louvre’”. They will also revisit the ever popular but brief, P.D.Q. Bach “Fanfare for Fred”, a raucous homage to his patron and chief financial supporter.

Homeschool Morning at the Magic House
April 4, 2016; 9:30-11:30 a.m.
The price will only be $3.00 per person again (ages 12 months and older)
Dear Homeschoolers,
Once again the Magic House, has graciously agreed to give us the wonderful $3.00 price for ALL of our Magic House Mornings this school year. We have promised them that “if they make it affordable, we will come”. Please, please spread the word about this great deal and make plans to attend one or all of the Homeschool Mornings at the Magic House. It’s such a wonderful experience to have that entire venue full of like-minded families. You can let your children have a lot of freedom knowing that the building is closed to the public and is open to only homeschool families and sweet Magic House employees. My goal again this year is to fill the Magic House with hundreds of homeschoolers and show our appreciation to the Administrative Staff of the Magic House for their generosity towards us!
Please note the following:
~Price: $3.00 per person (adults included)
~Children under the age of 1 are free.
~You may NOT use any membership pass or discount coupons as this is already a special price.
~Sign up is not necessary. You may pay at the counter and you may use the following: Cash, Check, Credit Card, Debit Card
~Be sure to use the entrance to the new Educational Center…do NOT use the old entrance (facing the school) and do NOT use the front doors facing Kirkwood Road.
~THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL HOMESCHOOLERS! Please feel free to copy this to all. It is important that we have over 400 participants or the price could be raised.
~We have 4 Magic House dates. There is no December, January, or March event.
~Time: 9:30-11:30 a.m.
~If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Mullins at Ekcjmullins@gmail.com

ST LOUIS HOME EDUCATORS EXPO
Only ONE WEEK left until the 2016 Expo on April 7-9! We are so excited about this year’s event – there is truly something for EVERYONE! We read your evaluation forms and listened to your requests and know you will love the line-up of speakers, seminars, and exhibitors. Below is some important info, including deadlines and new contest winners.  Please check the Expo website (www.stlhomeschoolexpo.com) and Facebook page frequently during the next week for timely updates. Thanks to all those helping to make this a wonderful event. See you soon! The Expo Board
-Please pray for Expo speaker Norm Wakefield! He was the main speaker this week at a conference in Medellin, Columbia (South America) and suddenly became very ill. He was rushed to the hospital where they performed an emergency appendectomy. Norm will be fine and says he is planning on giving his seminars at the Expo as planned – if the doctors will let him fly back in time! We will keep everyone posted about his progress.
-The FINAL Expo Schedule Grid is up on the website! Be sure and take a look at all the exciting choices! The speaker names on the grid are linked to detailed Speak Pages for your convenience. The Exhibitor Workshops (special talks that focus on a specific curriculum, product, or service) are listed at the bottom of the grid.
-You can still register online at the low pre-registration price until midnight on Tuesday, April 5. You can also register at the pre-registration price on Thursday night from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. On Friday morning the higher “at the door” registration price will begin.  NOTE: Even though we use the term “higher, “our conference registration cost is one of the lowest in the country!
-There are only a few spots left in the Expo Children’s Program (only Saturday space is available) and registration closes on April 1 at midnight! There will be no “at the door” registration this year. The 2016 Children’s Program will be an exciting new experience, brought to you by The Etiquette Factory with Mrs. Patterson. Children from ages 6-12 will participate in quality, hands-on programs from exceptional organizations in the St. Louis area.
-Good news! Dr. Jay Wile, author of many popular science books used by homneschoolers, will be at the Expo as an exhibitor and speaker! Stop by his Berean Builders booth to ask questions, purchase curriculum, and/or get his autograph on your books! See his Expo Speaker Page for details on his seminars. Check the website to see the other speakers we’ve added!
-If you serve the homeschool community in some area of leadership, we would like to express our gratitude by inviting you to the Leaders Fellowship event on Thursday, April 7, from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Carol Topp will be giving her seminar “Homeschool Leadership is Like Marriage-Know What You’re Getting Into!” and there will be light refreshments. The event is free but please register on the website by midnight on Tuesday, April 5.
-Would you still like to volunteer but haven’t been able sign–up through a support group? Contact Cathy Mullins at ekcjmullins@gmail.com and she will send you our Volunteer Opportunities email. The Expo would not exist without our awesome volunteers!
-There will still be some chances to win Facebook prizes during this last week!
Comment with a Melanie Wilson seminar by April 2 at 12 noon to be entered in a drawing to win $25 in Expo Cash and a copy of Melanie’s new book, “The Organized Homeschool Life.”  (Comment under the post of Melanie’s “Why I Wasted My Education to Homeschool” article!
Starting April 2, comment with one of your favorite Jean Burk seminars to win $25 Expo Cash and a copy of her book, “High School Prep Genius: An Academic Guide to Excellence.”  A drawing will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at midnight. Other drawings planned, too!

Jefferson Sale
April 15 @ 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Why the Jefferson Sale? Because prices are so low at this book sale, a two-dollar bill—the portrait of our third president—is sure to get you something good.
We have to clear out a lot of books. They’re good books, but we just don’t have the space. Maybe you can help find a new home for some of them. Maybe the low prices will help you out. Be sure to stop by during our Jefferson Sale.

Comments are not available, but sharing is.
The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
