Piano lessons: not your typical experience
Cost: $80 a month (+ other options)
Rhonda Barfield
What happens in a typical piano lesson? The student opens book 1 and plays a warm-up, two songs in book 2, and one song in book 3. He also does some theory sheets. End of story.
In Listening House Studios, we take a much more creative approach to piano lessons. We use books as a starting point, but our students also enjoy a lot more variety. Here are some activities that happen in a typical week:
>sight-reading with a cool but powerful app on our iPad
>listening to a tune and figuring out how to play it by ear
>adding chords to the tune
>playing games with the metronome
>composing an original piece
>playing in a rhythm band, with students taking turns conducting
>listening to a famous composer’s composition and discussing it
>the teacher playing classical pieces while students guess the name
>improvising on the 12-bar blues
>and much more!
Listening House believes in high standards for our students, but we also make the lessons fun. Why settle for less? Email to set up a no-cost consultation. We’ll explain our unique studio and get you or your homeschooled child started on the most interesting piano lessons ever.

Bright Lights Conferences
We are excited to announce that Bright Lights Conferences have been scheduled in the St. Louis area this summer. Taught by Sarah Mally and the Bright Lights staff, these conferences are designed to encourage young ladies to be strong for the Lord in their youth and shine radiantly as bright lights for Him!
Click here to watch a 2-minute video announcing the conferences.
>>Strong in the Lord Conference
Age: 8-14 (older girls are also welcome)
Includes small group times, humorous skits, testimonies from girls, hands-on activities, a chalk talk, harp music, singing, and practical, Biblical teaching that will challenge and prepare young ladies to remain strong for the Lord through their teen years.
Parents are encouraged to attend the conference in order to hear what their daughters are learning and reinforce it at home. While the girls are meeting in small groups, sessions taught by Harold and Rebekah Mally will be offered for fathers and mothers. Sessions will cover topics such as the importance of protecting your children, how fathers can set a godly pace for their family, how to win the hearts of your daughters, and building strong mother/daughter relationships.

>>Radiant Purity Conference
Age: 12-22+
A young lady who is pure and walking closely with Jesus shines with a radiant brightness in this world of darkness. How can a young lady stay physically and emotionally pure as she waits for God’s best in marriage? How can parents protect and guide? How can hurt lives be restored to radiant purity?
Creatively presented through stories and testimonies, practical instruction, skits, and real-life examples, this conference gives Biblical answers to everyday questions and deep life struggles. The material is discreet and appropriate for twelve year olds, yet relevant to all ages. Includes chalk drawings, harp music, and testimonies from young ladies who serve as Bright Lights staff.

The posted events are open to all homeschoolers in the St. Louis, MO, area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Lincoln County, Franklin County, and Jefferson County in MO, and Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County in IL, and surrounding regions).
NOTE: Inclusion in this list does not necessarily indicate endorsement by the blog owner. I try to include as many events or classes I know of in the Greater St. Louis area that would be of special interest to homeschoolers. Some of these events come from a distinctively “Christian” perspective, while others are purely “secular” in nature. If you see things that you would not be particularly interested in, just ignore them and look for the things that do appeal to you.
